Digital Presence - Creative Expression in The New Era

In the Digital Presence – Creative Expression in The New Era camp, students will develop an understanding of the basics of creating online content. Students will create posts to fit different social media platforms. All projects will only be viewable offline.

Future Investors - Business Stimulation

Keeping track of Money and setting goals to be a competent member of society has never been more fun! Students will learn about the ABCs of Finance and Money that came to be what we use to purchase products. Students will learn how to budget and keep records to plan for their future investments.

Ms. Kianna Cooper

Ms. Kianna Cooper is skilled in many scholarly fields including STEM, History, and the Social Sciences with specialized skills in sociological research methods. She has over ten years of experience in the education and afterschool field, and is an expert in teaching. She believes education is a right and not a privilege, and through education, the world can be changed.

When Kianna isn’t teaching, you might find her hanging out at East Side Artist Gallery, or running her photography business, capturing landscape and portrait photography. Or you may find her putting pen to paper (or finger to key) and working on a novel. She enjoys watching her fish swim around in their tank and spending time with her parents and husband, whether it’s shopping, hiking, or just enjoying a cup of coffee in a cafe. Kianna got her Bachelors of Science from Towson University in Sociology and Anthropology, and is working on her Master of Science in Crime Scene Investigation with Stevenson University. Once she graduates, she hopes to pursue her doctorate degree in Sociology or Criminology.

Future Inventors - Money Management

Ms. Tanijah Moore is looking forward to working with campers and fellow staff. She is excited about the opportunity to build self-confidence and critical thinking skills in children while helping them expand their budding interests in science, technology, engineering, and math. This is her first summer at CCACC Academy. Her goal is to ensure that the campers have a great time at CCACC as they learn and try new activities, have fun, and develop as individuals. With over 8 years of experience in working with children, Tanijah is looking forward to applying her unique combination of skills to the camp experience. She is an enthusiastic educator who is committed to creating fun, hands-on activities that foster a child’s intrinsic motivation. Born and raised in Brooklyn NYC, Tanijah is currently a resident of Montgomery County. In her spare time, she enjoys going on hikes, reading, and hula hooping. Her best friend is her black cat, Raindrop. Tanijah is looking forward to a fun and enriching summer!

Journalists & Reporters

Journalists & Reporters is perfect for students who are interested in writing, reporting, and understanding the world around them! In this camp, students will learn about the basics of journalism, including the development of news media, and basic principles and practices of journalistic writing. Students will also work on writing their own stories using the principles they learn.

Dr. Nicole Taylor is a specialist in English Language Arts and Communications. She has over 20 years of experience teaching students of various grade levels Creative Writing, Public Speaking, Drama, Journalism, and Visual Arts.  Dr. Taylor is passionate about instructing students using the Socratic Method and incorporating various art forms as a means of communicating ideas.  She is excited to return to our Summer Camp this year and looks forward to working with our dynamic students!

Public Speaking Junior

Public Speaking and Storytelling helps children claim their voices, share their ideas, and participate in a social conversation. Scholars will work together to discuss and celebrate creative ideas. The instructor will use a flexible curriculum as a guide to help inspire storytelling and Public speaking leadership.

Ms. Megan Herman has been teaching for eight years in Montgomery County Public Schools and is thrilled to be an Instructor at CCACC Academy. She attended Towson University and obtained an Elementary and Special Education degree; then, Loyola University Maryland for a Masters in Educational Leadership. She has held various positions at summer camps across Maryland in Arts and Crafts, STEM, and other activities. Working with and educating children is one of her passions.

Public Speaking Advanced & Debate

Public Speaking Advanced & Debate provides a platform for developed written and oral persuasion and argument. Over the course of the week students will work on research, personal persuasive pieces, and formal debate procedure. This course will culminate in a final presentation and tournament in front of family and friends.

Ready for Speech

Ready for Speech is CCACC Academy summer introduction to oratory performance camp. Through review of age appropriate stories, poems, and plays, campers will gain critical oral communication skills necessary to present in front of an audience.

TED Talks & Storytelling

The TED-Ed program helps children claim their voices, share their ideas, and participate in a global conversation.  Campers will work together to discuss and celebrate creative ideas. The instructor will use TED-Ed’s flexible curriculum as a guide to help inspire tomorrow’s TED speakers and leaders. At the end of the week campers will get to share their final stories in a TED-like presentation.

Youth United Nations Summit

With our Youth United Nations Summit camp, campers can enjoy a unique look into the world of international relations! Campers will cover the basic operation of the United Nations and conduct research based on an assigned country. The class will host a UN summit where students will debate global topics and issues, letting them walk away with a deeper understanding of world cultures, politics, and history and the interconnectedness of these topics in international affairs.
